Text of the Act

Preamble - An Act to regulate qualifications for Sheriffs.
1) No persons who had not been a moderator or have not had any experience in moderation, as verified by the Home Secretary, may be a candidate for the election of Sheriff. No one below known age of 18 may be a candidate and nor may anyone convicted of a felony. A candidate must have a degree in criminal justice from an educational institution authorized by the Royal Charter.
2) No deputies may be appointed by the Sheriff in his/her office unless the said person have a valid degree in criminal justice. No persons convicted of felony may be appointed as Sheriff’s deputies. Deputies must be at least 18 years of age.
3) No educational institutions may award a degree in law or criminal justice without approval from the Home Secretary. The examinations used for attainment of these degrees must be given prior approval by the Home Secretary. The courses specifically relating to these degrees must be approved by the Home Secretary.
4) All sheriffs and sheriff’s deputies must take oath upon taking office. Oath is to be prescribed by a separate Act of Parliament.
