Sheriff
Sheriff is a law enforcement officer in the Kingdom of Palmshire.
Appointment
Palmshire is organized into counties and each county have a sheriff appointed to the county by the Sovereign on advice of the Home Secretary (appointed by the Prime Minister).
Responsibilities
Sheriffs have several responsibilities pertaining to their office.
- Acts as the returning officer for parliamentary elections in counties, conducting and organizing election. After receiving a writ (a royal command) for the election to be held, the sheriff fixes the election timetable for the particular constituency or constituencies he/she is concerned with. He/she also maintains the electoral rolls listing the eligible voters that holds properties in his/her county, which must be forwarded to the Crown every 3 month. The Sheriff must also forward returns from election to the Crown and publish the election results for the public within 2 days of poll closing. There is no prohibition on sheriff being a candidate in a parliamentary election, as long as they do not conduct the election dishonestly on pain of being disqualified from future elections for 2 years and possible impeachment by the Parliament.
