Executive Branch

Under the Palmshire constitution, executive authority lies with the Sovereign. This authority is exercised only by, or on the advice of, the Governor and the Cabinet.

The current Prime Minister of Palmshire is the Chris D, leader of the Socialist Party, who was appointed by King Legion, on 29 August 2012 following the dismissal of Lord Tokeington that day.

Parliament of Palmshire

Template:MainArticle The Parliament of Palmshire consists of two houses: House of Commons and House of Lords. Prime Minister and Cabinet ministers must come from either houses of Parliament.

Simple majority is required for any bills to be passed in both Houses of Parliament as the Acts of Parliament. Once bills is passed, it is usually given Royal Assent by the Sovereign before it can take effect. Royal Assent being withheld by the Sovereign is equivalent to veto but this has not been done since 2011.

The Parliament usually meets only between March to December every year and meets monthly. A quorum of at least three members present is required for a House to be able to proceed to business. Notice that this quorum will not be raised even if either Houses gained new seats.

House of Commons

House of Lords

Template:MainArticle Palmshire House of Lords is the upper house within the Parliament. It consists of the appointed peers created by the Sovereign on advice of Governor of Palmshire. At present, there are twelve peers appointed to the House of Lords. The members are appointed for life and are not subject to election.

Peerages created by the Sovereign is inheritable. The only stipulation is that the heirs must be an active citizen of Virtual Paradise and has a property within Palmshire territories. If the current holder of a peerage wishes to name a heir, they must submit name of their heir to the royal office to be so entered into the records.
