Tower of Terror Remastered is a thrill ride created by GSK for Virtual Paradise. Prior to August 2016, it was located in ActiveWorlds. Tower of Terror takes place in an abandoned elevator located inside The Hollywood Tower Hotel, an elaborate facade created to house the ride and its operations systems. Since 2013, the methods used to develop the attraction are collectively referred to as the TX ride system. According to the back story, riders are placed inside a seemingly ordinary hotel elevator, from which people mysteriously disappeared under the influence of a supernatural element many years prior.

It has been remastered for Virtual Paradise to take advantage of the platform's numerous benefits, and opened in Aurora on January 28, 2017. The attraction can be accessed quickly by using the !j Tower chat command.

Tower of Terror Remastered won in the Best Build category in the 2017 Spring Awards.

Updates

Tower of Terror Remastered will receive regular updates that change or refine the attraction.

Update 1

Update 1 is scheduled to be completed in March 2017. Update 1 is designed to introduce a more menacing and creepy feel to the attraction. Update 1 also brings several updates and refinements to Tower of Terror.

  • When a user begins the ride sequence, a lightning strike will hit the front of the hotel prior to their first drop; this strike can be seen and heard by anyone in Aurora, as long as their visibility reaches the attraction.
  • The exterior lighting is now more distinctive.
  • The lobby has been rebuilt using assets from Blizzard.
  • There are now small variations in show scenes chosen at random when the user begins the ride sequence.
  • Introduced a brand new show scene that deviates from the attraction's main storyline and is presented as a side effect of "entering The Twilight Zone".
    • This new show scene appears at random, and sometimes may not appear at all.
  • It is now easier for select guests to enter backstage areas without progressing through the attraction's queue.
  • The loading level has been deactivated, and guests now proceed to a menu selection screen to select the track they wish to ride.
